Your Name

Read Revelation 20:1–15

Names are important! One of the first things we learned in kindergarten was how to write our name. Some letters might have been printed backwards or even upside down, but we took great pride in our accomplishment and wanted everyone to see how well we had written our name. As we grew older and learned how to write in cursive, we added a special flair to our signature that made it distinct.

Yes, our name is important and we want others to know it—and to spell it correctly. We work hard to get our name recognized in business or social circles. Accolades, when they come, give us momentary pleasure, but for some are not enough. Call it pride or the need to succeed, we probably all know someone who is driven to “get their name in lights,” so to speak. Perhaps that someone is you.

One day, Revelation 20:11–12 tells us, we will all stand before the Great White Throne where the books will be opened and we will be judged by the record of what we have done. Although we may have made quite a name for ourselves on earth and been applauded by many, all that will matter now is whether or not our name is recorded in the Book of Life.

Prayer Suggestion: Ask the Lord to help you live for Him.
