Read Jude 1:1–25
For a time, Ruth and Nancy attended the same church. Then Nancy stopped coming. When Ruth happened to meet Nancy in a store, she learned her friend now studied with a cult.
Alarmed, Ruth invited Nancy to lunch and shared the dangers of studying with false teachers. Nancy said, “I feel like there’s a spiritual battle raging inside me. I don’t know what to believe.”
Ruth prayed for her friend, asking God to open Nancy’s eyes to His truth. She also alerted a mutual Christian friend, who began mentoring Nancy. Before long, Nancy left the cult and started attending a sound Bible study.
In his short, stirring epistle, Jude warns believers about false teachers who distort the gospel, and exhorts them to stand up for their faith. “I felt I had to write and urge you to contend for the faith that was once for all entrusted to the saints” (Jude 1:3).
Believers must defend the faith in their own lives, and help guide back to the truth any who have strayed away. We can prepare to contend by doing as verse 20 says: “Build yourselves up in your most holy faith and pray in the Holy Spirit.”
Thought for Today: Knowing the truth of God’s Word helps us recognize counterfeit teaching and contend for the faith.
